My Postpartum Nursing Friendly Striped Shirt (Vogue V9258)
Hi everyone! I made two things while pregnant. This shirt and a dress. Normally I make 8 to 12 things per year, but this year it will be way less. It is fine because I made a whole human which took a lot of energy lol.
I wanted to show you all this beautiful shirt. It is helpful for nursing and covering up my stomach while it changes during postpartum.
I think I like this shirt enough to wear it for years to come even though it serves a purpose right now. I love the pattern matching that I did on the sides.
To me it looks really cute styled with leggings or flare pants. I could probably even get away with wearing it with straight leg pants. Since the top is so voluminous, I will not wear it with wide leg pants because it would just look frumpy. Basically, if the top silhouette is wide I like to have a tighter fitting garment on the bottom. If the bottom is bigger such as wide leg pants I wear a more fitted shirt. This helps my clothes to not overtake me because I do have a smaller frame.
Back to this pattern matching; I am so proud of it! It really took a lot of brain power to get the stripes in the correct place all around this garment. On the inside I made binding to close the seams in around the arm holes. This part was pretty tricky for me and in the future I need to make the binding wider.
As I reflect on this shirt, it was actually a challenge to make.
For my future projects I plan to do higher level sewing techniques so they may take longer than my previous garments to make. I feel more confident in my skill of sewing so I want to take my time to make things. Previously, I would rush to get things done because I was so excited to wear them. Also, I was not super confident in my sewing.
Side note: I also made the pants for this outfit. (You can read about it here) Additional side note: I love these boots! I have been searching for affordable cowgirl boots for years and I just found them so I had to purchase them. I used to have some but the pleather began to peel so I had to get rid of them.
