Hi everyone! Today, I’m going to share the sewing projects I plan on working on this year. While I can’t predict everything I’ll finish, these are the projects I’m carrying over from last year and some new ones I’m excited to tackle. I usually have a main plan (Plan A), but I also have a backup Plan B for when inspiration strikes! This video will cover around 7 or 8 projects, and we’ll see how it goes.

First up, I’m working on Simplicity 8220—I believe I’m doing view D, the shortest version, as a wearable muslin. I’ve already cut the fabric, and I made some size adjustments since it was a bit too big for me. The fabric I’m using is stunning, and I plan to make it longer for my final version.

Here’s a look at the skirt. It’s inside out right now, but I’ll need to trim down the side seams and finish it up. After testing the fit with the muslin, I plan to switch to view A, which is a longer version, and sew it in this beautiful fabric that drapes beautifully to the floor.

Next, I’m planning to finish New Look 6597, a dress I started last year. It’s a burgundy dress I made as a wearable muslin, and I absolutely love how it turned out. I wore it to several holiday parties, but I’ll wear it year-round. I just need to add the sleeves and finish the neckband. I love versatile dresses that can be worn in any season, so I plan to style this one with tights and boots when it gets colder.

Sometimes I like to sew pieces that I can wear all year long, depending on how I layer them. For example, I can easily wear the burgundy dress in the winter with a blazer or denim jacket. It’s great for layering and transitioning between seasons.

One of the projects I’m currently working on is Vogue 1821, a dress with a unique back feature. The construction has taken me a bit longer because I initially made the sleeves too long. I had to deconstruct the sleeves, shorten them, and reattach them. I’m almost finished with this project; I just need to add buttonholes, trim the hem, and do some final touches.

The fabric for Vogue 1821 is a little thick, so I’m a bit nervous about the buttonholes, but if my sewing machine can’t handle them, I’ll hand sew them instead. Overall, this dress is coming together nicely, and I’m excited to wear it once it’s finished.

Next, I have a blazer project—B 6862. I started it last summer, but I got stuck on the welt pockets and then got distracted by other projects. There’s still a lot left to do, but I love how stiff the interfacing makes the fabric, and I’m excited to see how it turns out once it’s done.

This is my first time adding a lining to a project, and I was intimidated at first, but I’m feeling more confident now. I think this blazer will be super cute when finished, even though it might not be perfect. I’m okay with it taking a bit longer—it’s worth the effort for such a beautiful piece.

Another project I plan to finish is a Vogue dress I started three years ago. I began it for a wedding, but I didn’t have the skills to finish it at the time. Now, I feel confident I can tackle it. I’ll be adding interfacing and playing around with cording on the bottom of the dress for a creative touch.

I’m considering adding some decorative cording to the bottom, though I’ll have to be careful not to add too much weight to the fabric. It could give the dress a unique look, so I’m excited to experiment with it. I already have the stash cording, and I love the idea of adding a military-style detail to a dress!

I’ve also got a beautiful wool fabric that I want to turn into a lightweight coat for spring. I’ve been inspired by a catalog from Talbots, and I’m hoping to find the pattern I had in mind. The coat will be lightweight, breathable, and maybe even lined with cotton for extra comfort.

After finishing the dress I’m working on now, my next project will be V 8772, a shirt dress pattern. I’ve modified it to make a mid-length dress, using a gorgeous cotton satin fabric I bought a couple of years ago. The design is totally outside my comfort zone, but I’m excited to try something different!

This fabric has a Versace-style pattern that I’m eager to turn into a chic shirt dress. It’s bold, but I love the idea of stepping out of my usual style comfort zone. It’s going to be a fun project!

It’s funny how this dress, which is a loose fit, is actually out of my comfort zone too. I usually prefer more fitted dresses, but I’ve been enjoying the comfort of this one. I can’t wait to finish it, though I’m still working on the neckline fit.

Thank you so much for watching! I hope you enjoyed hearing about my sewing plans for this year. If you’re working on any sewing projects yourself, feel free to share them with me—I’d love to see what you’re making. You can send me a message on Instagram or drop your YouTube handle, and I’ll check it out!
