Hi everyone, my name is Teria from Peace and Make. Today, I’m going to update you on what I’m currently working on with my sewing and creative projects. Let’s dive in!
First up, I’ve just cut out this new dress! Either this video will be before or after the one where I show more about the next steps, but I’ll be talking about this pattern: V8772. It’s going to be a button-up shirt dress with a relaxed, boxy fit. I’m not looking for anything fitted—just a casual, flowy vibe.
Next, I’ve been working on this blue dress, which I’ve been putting together since the end of last year. It’s almost done! The only thing left is the hem, but I need to serge it and fold it over. Unfortunately, my serger is broken. I was working on another project and something went wrong with the stitches. I’ve ordered some new needles, and I’ll try changing those out first, as I’ve been told it could be a threading issue or just the needle. Hopefully, that works! Once I get that sorted, I’ll be able to finish it up. This dress is V11821, and I’m excited to wear it soon!
The next thing I made is a cute pouch. I actually have a video coming out about that soon—I just need to edit it. For the inside, I added some bias binding, and while the tabs didn’t come out exactly how I wanted, I’m still really happy with how it turned out. The fabric is from Tilda Quilt Collection, and I got it from a small shop near Helen, Georgia. I bought a bunch of fat quarters, and they’re so pretty! One day, I might even make a video just showing off all the fabrics I bought. I hand-quilted this pouch, which was really fun. I know you can buy pre-quilted fabric, but I love the process of quilting—the actual stitching part, that is. I’m planning to make another one to fix the tab issue and make the measurements more accurate. I kind of just threw this one together, but I love it anyway!
Now, the last project I’m working on is a bag I’ll be pattern testing for a sewing friend on Instagram, Heather, whose handle is @sewinginverses. She designed a super cute crossbody bag, and I’ll try to pull up a picture to show you. If I can’t, you can check out her Instagram for it. I’m in the process of sourcing materials for the bag right now. I already have the fabric in my stash, but I still need to pick up some hardware.
Here’s the thing—does anyone else have this problem? I’ve earmarked two fabrics for this project, but I’ve had them in my stash for over a year (one fabric even longer—about two and a half years). Rationally, I know I should just use them instead of buying more fabric, especially since one of them is a basic cream canvas, which I can get anytime. But the other fabric is a bit more special, so I feel hesitant to use them. But I really need to start using what I have! I’m determined to make this bag work with these fabrics, and once I do, I’ll have a cute new accessory. I’ll probably do a video showing the fabrics at some point, but right now, I just want to get started.
I’ve pulled out a couple of fabrics to show you. This is my muslin, but I’m planning to use a heavier canvas for the main fabric of the bag. The accent fabric will be a faux suede (probably an upholstery fabric). I also have some brown vinyls and a peach gingham fabric, but I don’t think I want to go with the gingham—it’s not quite neutral enough to match everything I wear.
Once I find my canvas (or buy new fabric if I can’t find it), I’ll get started on the bag. The button-up dress will be my background project—something I work on in between the bag project, which will be my priority. So I’ll be working on both projects simultaneously.
So that’s what’s on my plate right now! Let me know in the comments what you’re working on. You don’t have to list four things like I did—just share one project you’re excited about. I love seeing what everyone’s creating! One of the things I enjoy about YouTube is reading the comments, so feel free to share.
